Major-label refugees who’ve bounced around since Universal Records dumped them after 2001’s Road Movies debut, this atmospheric L.A.-by-way-of-U.K.
roots-rock quartet found an audience in television and film soundtracks, with credits ranging from Nip/Tuck to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to
Shrek 2. Led by Simon Petty’s dusty, raspy vocals, Minibar’s music sounds both warm and desolate, as if it crawled from deep within the soul of
the American south – and sort of like the imagery conjured by the title of the group’s third full-length record.
It’s weary yet vital, sad yet uplifting. And it makes me want to turn out the lights and think about times and places long past.
